power. >> wow. >> very nice. >> welcome. >> how are you? >> good. >> were you very familiar with "sex and the city" before you auditioned for this role? >> i was not. i was very young when the show ended, but as soon as i started auditioning, i got all the seasons and became a huge fan, and i watched the show all the time. >> i always wonder how people get the roles. obviously, you're terrific in it, but you claimed it was the chicken dance at the audition. >> let's hear about that. >> yeah, i had like a week-long of just series of auditions, and at the end they were talking -- they were trying to get to know us. it's always so weird. and they said, so you're going to prom, right? how do you dance at the prom? i just kind of started breaking it down. i don't know. i just started doing the chicken dance, and peter ross told me that i got the role because i tried to be goofy. >> you were being you. >> i was being me. that's my advice to young girls. just be you.

>> now, did you study carrie bradshaw, and were you trying to kind of emulate the way she spoke and those kind of things? >> no. i mean, i watched the show, and i tried to kind of pick up little mannerisms here and there. but they don't want me to -- we're not trying to be "sex and the city." we're not trying to replicate her beautiful performance. we want it to be -- it's carrie before we knew her as the carrie bradshaw. >> carrie is still in high school, right, and she's got an internship one day a week at a law firm, and her mom passed away. she's going through a lot of stuff. >> she's really -- this is a really transitional time for carrie right now. it's her first sort of romantic relationship, her first real job, and we'll see her get more and more involved. >> her first relationship in new york city too. she's a connecticut kid who falls in love with the city. >> and fashion, yes. >> and she carries a purse, and there was like a mistake, wasn't there, on her purse? what happened?
